The St. Antonius meanwhile 25 years deployed in our base fleet!
As from the summer of 1980 the Bosman family owns and deploys container carrying barge vessels. This means that this family belongs to the group of real pioneers in the barge container industry. Consequently the Bosman family has also experienced the startup of almost all inland barge terminals along the river Rhine.
On 4 September 1986 the second motor vessel (MV) bearing the name of St. Antonius was taken up in the Rhinecontainer base fleet. 25 Years later the barge combination St. Antonius sails under Rhinecontainer long term charter. In other words already during a period of 25 years a Bosman vessel with the name of St. Antonius has been taken up in the Rhinecontainer base fleet. And that is exactly why Rhinecontainer does not want this milestone to be passed unnoticed!
During the course of 1986 the Bosman family launched the second MV bearing the name of St. Antonius. The crew comprised of papa and mama Toon and Betty Bosman, as well as their sons Antoon and Roland and Antoon’s wife Nelly. Meanwhile 3 Bosman generations sail on their various owned vessels, of which 3 are permanently part of the Rhinecontainer base fleet.
The second MV St. Antonius had a transport capacity of 208 TEU, which was huge by that time. With this motor vessel the Bosman family started to call the brand new Rhenania terminal in Frankfurt. During the course of 1999 the motor vessel was replaced by a barge combination with a total transport capacity of 368 TEU. At that time this was a very large barge unit! Rhinecontainer deployed this barge combination on Karlsruhe. After some time this barge combination was extended with two additional side barges, boosting the total transportation capacity to 720 TEU. During 2010 the before described barge combination was replaced by a new barge combination with the same capacity (max. 720 TEU). This state-of-the-art barge combination currently calls Mannheim and Karlsruhe.
Rhinecontainer is very proud to work together with the Bosman family. During the previous 25 years the Bosman family and Rhinecontainer have become a real close team. We are very grateful to operate together with the Bosman family as partners in the barge business.
